Research
The Office of Academic and Community Partnerships (OACP) fosters public engagement in health research at CUIMC to ensure local representation in research translates to improved community health outcomes.
Health research is critical to human health: the ways we stay healthy (prevention), the tests and imaging used to detect disease (diagnosis), and the medications, procedures, and therapies to manage or cure our health conditions (treatments) are all due to research with individuals and communities.
Health research consists of public health research, clinical trials, and various types of studies including observational, behavioral, and genetic. All research is a team effort, with the participant at the center. At OACP we seek to facilitate the participation of our surrounding communities by promoting community engaged research (CEnR), an approach to doing research that involves communities affected by the condition under study. CEnR makes for health research that is responsive to community interests, needs, and priorities.
We provide opportunities, services, and resources to researchers, patients, and community residents to involve the voice and participation of our communities in CEnR research at CUIMC.
